Brief
This event poster was assigned as a school project, based on a personal hobby which was crafting earrings. One poster could include type and self photographed imagery, however the other could only feature type. Additionally, I was only allowed two typefaces per poster. Each poster had to incorporate three levels of hierarchy, which included body copy that introduced the event to the audience.

Process: Comps
I chose three sketches out of the batches of thumbnails for each poster to move forward with. Choosing the most clever and well-thought out ideas, I sketched out each thumbnail in half scale from the original 11x17 dimensions with red pencil. I then inked each sketch and mounted them on black paper. Going through them with the client, we ended up on deciding to mix some of the ideas together to create a new design.
Final Design
The first poster includes a statement, "Join Us," to play on the idea of crafting earrings with the joining of beads and threaded chain. The overall design has a paper like texture with ripped pieces of paper to emphasize on the idea of D.I.Y. and how that would entice the audience who likes to craft.
Even though the project mentions that I can only use two typefaces, I was allowed to print multiple typefaces out and scan them to digitally include them. I did this with the main statement, with printing out letters, ripping them, and running them through a scanner.

Final Design
The type only poster plays on type is image, with the counter form of the letter C creating an ear, curved letters hanging from the ear make out the earrings. The phrase, "Make Your Own Look," entices the audience to make a unique earring that is tailored to their personal preferences.
