Brief
The client requested a black and white symbol of an amphibian. The symbol should use elements of gestalt principles to create the form. The symbol should represent the whole body with no signs of its environment.
They requested three finished symbols, each one being assigned a different descriptor that had to be portrayed through point, line and plane; the descriptors being graceful, neutral and volatile.
Final Vectors
Left: "Graceful" was portrayed through thin curved lines, flowy curved shapes, and elegantly repeating circles. The positioning of the Fire Salamander is curved upward which correlates with the overall flowing elements.
Center: Utilizing the salamanders natural state, the neutral symbol was designed with the intention of balancing elements of curved and straight lines.
Right: With the volatile symbol, harsh shapes and jagged lines were used. The angle in which the salamander is being looked at creates a curved yet angular hook, which helped the overall design look more volatile.

Skateboard Designs
Expanding on the different descriptors that were used in each symbol, the symbols were used as skateboard graphics. In a sketch-like manner, illustrations were made utilizing the shapes used in its original form. The following colors were chosen based on the descriptors: green, which signifies good, neutral emotions, blue for graceful, offering a feeling of peace and elegance, and red for volatile, enhancing the ragged and sharp feeling of the symbol.
